Ben Tryer does his own investigation into immigration in Homer and around the world. He goes about doing research by researching online about the topic. The topic he focuses online is Immigration specifically in the U.S. He would find his information by various websites excluding the New York Times and BBC. He explained that they had liberal bias. The way he does his research that is the source of his struggle is that he does all his research on the internet. The internet, as we know isn't home to all credible and honorable information, even though he discussed that he refrains from websites that give a liberal bias, yet he still uses sources that may not give the most scholarly information.

Some steps you can do to make sure your sources are credible is simply doing adequate research about the sources you are using. For example, we have all heard "Don't use Wikipedia for your research", however you can use it as a starting point, click on the sources Wikipedia uses for their articles, as they would be more credible then Wikipedia itself.

I feel as if controversial issue papers need some bias to show an interest in the paper itself. However, it should not be used frequently in your piece. Controversial issue papers can be produced without bias, however it is pretty hard to create a piece without bias. Example: You write a paper on Planned Parenthood you probably already know what side you are on of the debate, you may find yourself unintentionally including a little bias since your ideas are already present prior to writing the piece.

My community for my paper is Student Government Association at FSU.

Current knowledge and curiosity to find out more about the community at the college level.
