Layli Long Soldier is referring to the congressional resolution apology letter to the Native Americans. Layli Long Soldier is a Native American herself, she is a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation. She was so surprised by this letter because it took months for her to know it even existed, this is because she is a member of the Native American community which has already affected by injustices by the United States Government. What makes it even more surprising is that she’s a teacher at Dine’ College of the Navajo people and she still was unaware.
Layli Long Soldier is referring to the diction the United States government used in their official apology letter to the Native American Tribes. In her interview, she recognizes and discusses the phrasing and tone of the letter, the Native Americans who have been affected deserves an actual apology not a history lesson on the actions and conflicts Native Americans endures but a real and sincere apology. This is why details of phrasing is so important, so it is not taken in a different context or not addressed as sincerely as intended.
This podcast is specifically so important because the topic and the voices of the podcast are touching upon a specific issue. Being specific in your writing helps the audience understand the direction of the piece and the message(s) that are trying to be conveyed.
The structure of the interview is a conversation between Ms. Layli Long Soldier and Ms. Tippett. The structure does see to be flowing and consistent, as I followed along I could keep up with the story being told. I think both, Ms. Layli Long Soldier and Ms. Tippett seemed relaxed and comfortable, as well as they both seemed to feel as if the topic was of importance. The structure of conversation allowed both Ms. Layli Long Soldier and Ms.Tippett to respond in transitioning and easy flowing ways like any natural or normal conversation would.I can use this comfortable, free flowing conversational interview method and use it as a strategy for my interview and paper.
